The Chemist, The Rocket Room

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of doing a few press photos for the boys from The Chemist. After taking this photoĀ of lead singer Ben at the Rocket Room a few months ago, I was keen to get back there and have another go with that backdrop. Luckily, management didn’t mind us taking over the venue for a few hours, so I carted my flashes, umbrellas and light stands into Northbridge for a cruisy little weekday shoot.

The flashes, umbrellas and light stands were fairly quickly abandoned when I got fed upĀ with shifting them around. Flashes off, front of house lights on. Much easier. Most of these photos really could have benefitted from a reflector to combat the overhead light, but for all the crap I bought with me, a big white bit of cardboard was not among the bunch. Live and learn.

Used this shoot as an opportunity to play with the various photoshop actions I’ve collected from around the place. Was going for a contrasty vintage sort of look as the overall theme, but did get a bit experimental as well (though ‘experimental’ could quite easily also be interpreted as ‘heavy handed’)

A pretty good fun shoot, a few ideas stuck, a few didn’t. This shoot brings my promo tally up to the grand total of ten, which is absolutely bugger all, and I need to make an effort to make the time to do more. But I’m fairly happy with them, stretched myself a little bit and didn’t fall in a total heap, so that’s always a win.

I freakin’ love these. The first one is my favorite – I’ve been really into backstage/candid-ish type shots lately, and I love that you can see the umbrella in the shot. The processing on all of them are great though!
